They do more than simply carrying the load. Trailers and semi-trailers are a fundamental variable to make vehicles more efficient as a whole and more sustainable.
A foundation on which to base the prospect of developing safer and more efficient road haulage in addition to goods, exploiting the many features of the new vehicles that contribute to making use more and more efficient, journey after journey.
The sustainability of a trailer can be assessed from several points of view, such as a lower tare weight - guaranteed by lighter construction materials - and improved aerodynamics, for instance, essential to reduce consumption. Ease of loading and unloading also becomes a sustainable requirement because it improves efficiency and saves time.
So, not unlike tractors, real development cannot disregard the issue of safety. The potential risks of a moving weight which can be four times heavier than the tractor itself, as in the case of a fully loaded semi-trailer, must always be under control. Braking and stability management systems, next-generation axles and suspension, paired with the most advanced sensors, are indispensable solutions for vehicle reliability.
Strong of new connected technologies, today trailers and semi-trailers are "smart" and able to send updated information on trim and conditions of the vehicle, as well as of the load, directly to the cab. These are extra opportunities for hauliers and fleet managers, today increasingly at the centre of a continuous dialogue with the vehicle and its conditions during the journey to be able to intervene in a timely fashion in case of problems, limiting waste, damage and mishaps, also improving the comfort of work.
At Transpotec Logitec, the trailers and semi-trailers that are driving the evolution of the sector, together with the equipment proposals created to satisfy every aspect of use, intermodal or otherwise, will be featured in dedicated areas for a comprehensive overview of the most sustainable opportunities.
