With 1,700 members, all leading firms in freight transport and logistics, ANITA has a prime view of the industry. So we asked ANITA President Riccardo Morelli for his thoughts on Italian logistics. Here's what he said.

Since 1944, ANITA has been the Confindustria Association that represents road haulage and logistics firms working in Italy and Europe. Today there are 1,700 member companies, leading players in the road haulage, intermodal and logistics sectors, operating nationally and internationally. This is undoubtedly a prime spot from which to view a market that, based on the latest figures from the Gino Marchet Observatory at the Politecnico di Milano, keeps growing despite facing many challenges.

“The sector is certainly undergoing a significant transformation; it's at a pivotal moment and facing major challenges,” explained Riccardo Morelli, President of ANITA. “We must handle the technological shift that fuels both environmental and digital changes. This presents us with crucial considerations and, above all, major investments that we must make now to avoid falling behind. On the other hand, perhaps the toughest challenge is the shortage of staff. The industry is struggling with a very high average age and lacks young replacements. Sadly, young people don't find careers in logistics appealing, as they still see them through outdated stereotypes. In truth, our world has changed deeply in recent years, and digital technology is transforming how we operate and work, including by creating new and skilled jobs that previously didn't exist.”

To show how the sector is evolving and innovating, and to attract young people to careers in logistics, ANITA will have a significant and varied presence at Transpotec Logitec. “The event is a key global platform to review the industry's progress, assess available resources, and exchange visions and ideas for expansion. This is ANITA's aim as well. Our presence will offer a chance to engage with various market participants and to explore current issues through direct community interaction and by hosting workshops and meetings for sharing ideas. Additionally, we aim to engage young people and clarify, for newcomers, our vision and the promise of an industry that I believe stands as one of the most innovative in organising processes today, which I see as adding significant value.”
