That's why today saying "lorry driver" or "mechanic" is almost reductive.
Industrial vehicle drivers must have the skills of a logistics expert and, above all, must know how to make the most of the potential of highly innovative and increasingly connected vehicles, while mechanics are turning into highly specialised technicians who need to manage digital tests and diagnostics.
"Servicing next-generation vehicles today is an area in which technology has reached a very high level of sophistication in management and control and for which advanced skills are required. The jobs are carried out in 4.0 workshops, equipped with electronic instruments and technologically advanced diagnostic systems", commented Franco Fenoglio, President of the industrial vehicle section of UNRAE. "In this scenario, the human factor will play a decisive role. The industrial vehicle construction, distribution and service sector is proving to be a genuine reservoir of qualified employment on a daily basis. It is estimated that the sector will need around 20,000 professional industrial vehicle drivers and over 5,000 specialist technicians over the next few years".
